The Complete Papers is an extensive catalogue spanning nearly three decades of work by the German artist Thomas Demand (Munich, 1964). Demand produces large-scale photographs that appear convincingly real or strangely artificial in their minimalism. His images are in fact records of life-size paper installations, which he often creates based on images culled from the media. From the White House Oval Office to Saddam Hussein's kitchen, an airport security gate, Whitney Houstons last supper, and the former HQ of the Stasi secret police of GDR, Demand reconstructs unpeopled interiors or environments, which appear at once generic and reminiscent, or even iconic. This volume is the almost an opera omnia about Thomas Demands works, that sheds light on the artist personal history and on the trajectory of his creative practice. As somewhere between sculpturing and photography, Demands pictures open new perspectives on reality and how we experience it.
