The founder of the fashion house, André Courrèges, is a French designer known for his ultra-modern styling. After earning his degree in civil engineering, Courrèges began his career in fashion at Jeanne Lafaurie before going on to Balenciaga. His unmistakable style is inspired by architecture and technology; his creations are hymns to geometry, built on square and triangular forms. His research into novel materials like plastic and metal created dresses unique in the history of fashion, making the Maison one of the most innovative of all time. Courrèges is considered an inventor of the miniskirt, on a par with Mary Quant.
